Selling on Kaufland in 2026: a guide for international sellers

Kaufland runs online marketplaces in nine European countries, and you do not have to be based in any of them to sell there. This guide is for sellers outside those countries, and for sellers in one of them who want to reach the others: what Kaufland asks of you, what it costs, and what changes if your company is based outside the EU. The sources for every Kaufland rule are listed at the end, all read on 30 September 2026.

Nine storefronts, one registration

Kaufland’s marketplaces are Kaufland.de, Kaufland.at, Kaufland.cz, Kaufland.sk, Kaufland.pl, Kaufland.fr, Kaufland.it, Kaufland.nl and Kaufland.es. Kaufland offers them to sellers under the name Kaufland Global Marketplace, with the line “1 registration. 9 marketplaces.” You register once, pick the sales channels you want, and manage all of them from the same Seller Portal.

What Kaufland includes for cross-border sellers, according to its own pages: free translation of product data (into every channel language except German) and tickets, payment processing in the local currency, and first-level customer support in the local language of each marketplace. The detail per country is on our Kaufland Global Marketplace page.

Can sellers from the UK, the US or China sell on Kaufland?

Yes, with extra obligations. Kaufland’s registration and tax pages set out requirements for “non-EU sellers” and give China, the USA and the UK as examples of non-EU countries. We found no list of excluded countries. What Kaufland asks differs by where your company is based:

Company based in the EU Company based outside the EU
VAT ID of your headquarters Required Required
VAT per sales channel OSS number, or a local VAT ID per channel A country-specific tax registration and VAT ID for each channel
Who invoices the buyer You Kaufland, as “deemed supplier”, when goods ship from an EU warehouse (see below)
CE products made outside the EU A responsible person in the EU, entered in the Seller Portal The same

Kaufland’s pages do not ask for an EU company. They do ask for a VAT ID per channel, which for a non-EU seller means registering for VAT in each country you sell in. Plan for that before you register, because Kaufland asks for the VAT ID of each channel during onboarding.

The €150 rule for goods shipped from outside the EU

Kaufland states that from 15 June 2026, offers with a net value under €150 that ship from a warehouse outside the EU are deactivated. It has also not supported IOSS for shipments from third countries since 1 July 2026; since that date every shipment from a non-EU country has been subject to customs duty from the first cent, and goods from outside the EU must be imported under DDP (delivered duty paid). In practice, a UK, US or Chinese seller with offers under €150 needs stock in an EU warehouse. An offer blocked for this reason does not come back if you only change its warehouse or price: you delete it and create it again. Kaufland also asks you to enter every warehouse outside the EU in the Seller Portal, including those of fulfilment or drop-shipping providers.

Deemed supplier: when Kaufland handles the VAT

Under the EU VAT rules of 2021, Kaufland is treated as the seller for VAT purposes in two cases: goods ship from an EU location to EU customers and the seller is not based in the EU, or goods ship from outside the EU and the consignment is worth €150 or less. Kaufland then calculates and pays the VAT, sends the invoice to the buyer, and your payouts come without VAT. You remain liable for warranty and product liability.

Registering: what you need

Registration starts at kaufland.com/join. According to the Seller University you upload:

  • an identity document;
  • your business registration and a commercial register excerpt no older than four weeks, each file at most 4 MB;
  • tax information, including the VAT ID of your headquarters.

Kaufland says it activates accounts within three working days, provided your details are complete. Onboarding then takes eight steps: shipping groups, offers, tax information, legal texts, company details and EPR, returns address, warehouse, and going live. If you do not publish yourself, your offers go live automatically within 24 hours of finishing onboarding.

Legal texts (legal notice, terms, privacy notice, withdrawal policy) must be in the language of each channel. The company details in your legal notice must match your tax registration exactly: Kaufland checks VAT IDs via VIES and with a qualified check at the German Federal Central Tax Office, and hides a sales channel automatically if a VAT ID cannot be validated and is not corrected in time.

Which documents fit your legal form, and which EPR numbers each country needs, is in Kaufland seller registration: the documents you need.

What it costs

Two fees, published on Kaufland’s conditions page:

  • Monthly base fee: Basic €39.95 or Plus €59.95, excluding VAT. One base fee covers all Kaufland marketplaces, and Plus includes a €30 monthly discount on Sponsored Product Ads, which expires at the end of each month if unused.
  • Commission per sale: a percentage by category, calculated on the gross sales price including shipping and VAT; the commission itself is quoted excluding VAT. For eight of the nine countries it runs from 7% (computers and electronics) to 16% (jewellery). Poland has its own, mostly lower column.

New to Kaufland? With the code SELLGRIP26 you pay no base fee for your first three months. You can register up to and including 30 November 2026. How it works

Vouchers, cancellations above 1% and a few optional services can add to that. The full breakdown with a worked example is in our article on Kaufland seller fees; the table per category is on Kaufland fees 2026, and the profit calculator works out what you keep per unit.

Which storefront first

Many sellers look at Kaufland.de first. That only works if you have German product data or can create it: Kaufland’s free translation does not translate into German. But the right first market depends on your products: the category commission is the same in eight countries, while shipping cost, VAT rate and local prices are not. Offers are listed in each channel’s language and currency (euro, Czech koruna on Kaufland.cz, złoty on Kaufland.pl).

Look at it per product: what it sells for in the target country, minus commission, VAT, shipping and packaging. Where most of your range clears your own margin, start there.

Shipping and confirming shipment

Every order has to be marked as shipped, in the Seller Portal or via the API, with tracking and carrier. Without that confirmation Kaufland cannot release the revenue. Kaufland expects at least 80% of your shipments to be trackable.

The delivery time buyers see is your processing time plus the transport time in your shipping group, counted in working days (Saturday does not count). One cross-border point from Kaufland’s shipping settings: if you use DHL for out-of-home delivery (parcel lockers and pick-up points) and ship to Germany from another EU country, Kaufland asks you to choose a different carrier.

Returns

The default return period is 14 days. If the returned item costs more than €40, return shipping must be free for the buyer, which means you pay it. Your returns address must be in the EU. Since 1 February 2026 your first reply to a return request must contain a valid return option, or Kaufland cancels and refunds the order at your expense. Kaufland’s automated return programmes with DHL and DPD need a German return address, which matters if your stock sits elsewhere. More in our article on Kaufland returns; the return cost calculator works out the cost of one return.

Performance: the numbers Kaufland watches

  • seller-related cancellation rate under 1% a month; between 1% and 2.99% Kaufland charges 7% of the total price of the cancelled transactions, and over 3% it is 15%;
  • every ticket answered within 48 hours on working days;
  • at least 80% trackable shipments.

Check your own rate with the cancellation rate calculator.

Getting paid

Kaufland releases your revenue 14 days after delivery (with a tracking number) or 21 days after the order is marked as shipped (without one). An open ticket pauses the period. You transfer released funds yourself, at any time, in the Accounting section of the Seller Portal. Payouts are in the channel’s local currency; for Czechia and Poland you can choose euro instead. If your business account is in pounds or dollars, check with your bank what converting the payouts costs.

Software for Kaufland sellers

Kaufland has a Seller API; keys are created in the Seller Portal under Settings, API. Software such as Sellgrip connects through it. Sellgrip is made for Kaufland sellers: orders, returns, tickets, profit per product and payouts on one screen, with koruna and złoty converted at the ECB rate where you need a euro total. It is free for up to 100 products in one Kaufland country; Pro covers three countries and Business all nine. Its Country check, part of Business, works out, with your own products and costs, which storefront pays off next.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an EU company to sell on Kaufland?

Kaufland’s pages do not require one. They do require the VAT ID of your headquarters and, for non-EU sellers, a country-specific tax registration and VAT ID for each sales channel.

Can I ship from the UK or the US?

Yes, but Kaufland asks you to enter every warehouse outside the EU in the Seller Portal. Since 15 June 2026, Kaufland has deactivated offers under €150 net shipped from outside the EU, so for those you need stock in an EU warehouse. Since 1 July 2026, customs duty has applied to every shipment from outside the EU from the first cent.

Do I pay a separate fee for each country?

No. One base fee covers all Kaufland marketplaces. Commission depends on the category; only Poland has its own column.

How long does it take to start selling?

Kaufland says it activates a new account within three working days. After onboarding, offers you have not published yourself go live within 24 hours. Allow extra time for VAT registrations in the countries you want to sell in.
